Seasonal fruit in the display case
Why we do not sell strawberry cake in December, and what goes in the case instead.
We are often asked why there is no strawberry cake at a given moment. The answer is simple: because there are no good strawberries.
Why it matters
Fruit flavour declines from the moment it is picked, and long transport accelerates that. A strawberry bought in December may look fine but has little taste or scent left.
What we make instead
Spring and early summer: strawberry, then sour cherry.
Midsummer: apricot, raspberry, peach – the best season for fruit ice cream.
Autumn: plum, grape, apple – apple tart returns.
Winter: the classics. Dobos, Esterházy, Gerbeaud slice, cream slice.
More from us
How far ahead should you order a cake?
The question we get most often. The short answer: it depends on the occasion, but always earlier than you would think.
Why a cream slice is best in the morning
Not a whim but physics: puff pastry loses its crispness within hours as it takes up moisture from the custard.
Allergens: what to know before you order
What we can and cannot take on, and why telling us in time matters.
